Warralily green transport link completed

The Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman, Geelong Mayor Bruce Harwood and the Warralily team came together to mark completion of the Warralily shared pathway link from Barwon Heads Rd through to the Surf Coast Highway.

The picturesque 4.9km shared pathway enables residents to cycle or walk the full breadth of Armstrong Creek’s leading development - providing a new level of connectivity to the growth area and a healthy lifestyle for residents.

To date Warralily has invested $1.95 million building a shared path network to connect the estate’s open spaces, playgrounds and landscaped creek corridor to homes, schools, community facilities, sport ovals and shopping precincts.

Warralily Urban Design Manager Jeremy Minter said the network promotes the concept of green-transport in a bid to further protect the environment and create sustainable transport across the region.

“The pathway, complete withboardwalks and viewing platforms, winds its way through the rejuvenated creek corridor where over 1 million plants have now grown and matured into an established thriving ecosystem rich in birdlife, frogs and the like.” said Jeremy.

“It is also a journey rich in cultural heritage, celebrated through public artworks peppered along the landscape to createa unique setting for our residents who are enthusiastically nature-loving and community-minded.”

The community’s distinctive sense of place has been celebrated in numerous awards including the prestigious UDIA Victoria Masterplanned Community Award and the UDIA National Environmental Excellence Award.

Warralily Director Mark Casey said the pathway link was a milestone in achieving Warralily’s vision of creating a truly modern and liveable community that lives in harmony with nature.

“From the lower reaches of the rejuvenated Armstrong Creek wetland system through to the ancient River Red Gums along the Surf Coast Hwy, the recently completed pathway opens up a range of experiences and connections for the community.” said Mark.

“On completion Warralily and surrounding areas will provide over 25 kilometres of pathways tocreate a walkable relationship across the wider Armstrong Creek and Mt Duneed area.”

Civil, landscaping and infrastructure investment on the 380-hectare greenfield site exceeds $780 million, 77 stages are complete and over 550 lots are currently under construction.

The 7000 strong community is rich with all the facilities needed - a $100 million shopping Village, convenience outlets, state-of-the-art primary school, multiple childcare centres, a council community hub and newly completed sports precinct.

“Being the largest and most established community in Armstrong Creek, the completion of this pathway link is a great achievement for our residents, the wider Armstrong Creek growth area and the region.” said Mark.
