Smoking Ceremony pays respect to site's cultural significance
More than 100 project partners and construction workers gathered on the future Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre site where Wadawurrung Traditional Custodians of the land conducted a Welcome and Smoking Ceremony.
Led by Wadawurrung Woman Corrina Eccles, the ceremony also recognised the important contribution of the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) in shaping the precinct’s design, identity and recognition of local cultural heritage.
Nyaal Banyul means ‘open your eyes to the hills’ and will continue the Wadawurrung tradition of gathering and celebrating at this location.
