Austin Lara breaks new ground

Geelong’s next urban growth area is now a step closer to reality with the green light given for the master-planned Austin Lara community to commence construction.

The City of Greater Geelong has issued the planning permit for the greenfield estate on the corner of Bacchus Marsh and Patullos Roads in Lara, paving the way for the first residents to settle on their home sites in the last quarter of 2020.

Austin Lara, by developer Austin Land Pty Ltd, is part of the Lara West Precinct, which will be home to Geelong’s newest residential community of around 11,000 people and an employment precinct sustaining 300 jobs.

Speaking of today’s official sod turning to mark the project’s commencement, Austin Land, chairman Mr Ping Zhao, said the 1100-lot estate will flagship the group’s vision to create quality community living.

“At Austin Lara we have taken full advantage of detailed urban design scrutiny to create a lifestyle where residents will harmonize with their surrounding environment.” said Mr Zhao.

“The estate’s landscaping, featuring mature plantings and large scale public art, will play a central role in establishing a thoroughly modern community with a strong sense of place.”

Wide tree-lined streets and a serene waterway reserve will shape the landscape of the estate, offering plenty of space for family picnics and leisurely afternoon strolls.

A large community park will feature barbecue facilities, play equipment and technology stations.

The estate’s strong market appeal was confirmed when the first land release sold out within hours of hitting the market. Supported predominantly by local Lara and Geelong owner-occupiers, plus Melbourne lifestyle seekers, 130 lots have now been sold. A further 22 lots will be released in coming weeks.

Executive Director of Latitude Real Estate Pty Ltd, Bob Hand, described Lara as the land of opportunity.

“It’s on the Melbourne side of Geelong, which I find extremely appealing for buyers,” said Mr. Hand. “The precinct’s location offers unrivalled proximity to the cities of Geelong and Melbourne, as well as the nearby township of Lara and easy access to country and coastal attractions.”

“Lara is calling out for a top-end estate and I believe we have something really special in Austin Lara. The project is driven by an amazing developer striving to set a new benchmark for the area and future projects. Austin Land is committed to quality and that flows through to the consulting teams on the project too.”

Mr Zhao, who has decades of distinguished experience in real estate development in Australia and abroad, has assembled a team of highly reputable industry specialists to deliver Austin’s community vision.

PPM Group, responsible for delivering the landmark apartment high-rise The Mercer, will provide project management, along with Spiire’s urban design and engineering services. Local firm Lake and Land, has been appointed as civil contractor.

As a designated growth area, many attractive new amenities are planned, including primary and secondary schools, a community centre and a neighbourhood shopping centre. Walking and cycling tracks will add to the vibrancy of community living.

Nearby Lara Train Station provides transport to Geelong in 13 minutes and Southern Cross Station in 45 minutes, making either city easily accessible for work, shopping, entertainment or dining.
