Armstrong Creek’s leading community celebrates 10-year anniversary

This year Warralily celebrates how ten-years of people-inspired planning and infrastructure have transformed Armstrong Creek into a welcoming community.

The launch of the $1.5 billion Warralily development in July 2010 signaled the beginning of the 2500-hectare Armstrong Creek growth area to accommodate the region’s projected growth and popularity as a lifestyle destination.

Over the past decade, Warralily has invested over $750 million to deliver a truly modern community that has earned 16 state and national awards to become Geelong’s most awarded community.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher congratulated Warralily on its 10- year anniversary.

“The City of Greater Geelong has been proud to work collaboratively with Warralily to deliver the best outcomes for residents who have developed into a vibrant, close- knit and inclusive community.” said Mayor Asher.

“With more than 8,000 residents calling Warralily home, it’s clear this is a great place to live in Greater Geelong.”

Warralily Community Development Officer Nina Bendon says community is the essential principle that has guided the Warralily master plan from day one.

“It’s why places to meet and interact are central to the Warralily concept and why I’m passionate about helping residents connect and thrive.” said Ms Bendon.

“At times like this the true value of a connected community shines through.”

Today, residents enjoy a vibrant village atmosphere linked to homes, playgrounds and the Armstrong Creek waterway by 30km of walking and cycling paths.

The central hub includes the region’s largest community centre, a Woolworths supermarket and numerous specialty shops, along with cafes and eateries where friends and family meet.

The community also boasts ample early childhood and school facilities including the new Armstrong Creek School, St Catherine of Siena Catholic School and in 2021 the new state secondary school, Oberon High School.

Community teams and clubs enjoy top-class facilities with competition-standard junior and senior ovals, netball courts and sports pavilion.

Armstrong Creek School Principal Evan Savage said there’s a real community spirit that the school is proud to be part of.

“We’ve been opened for three years now and have established ourselves as a central part of the community.” said Mr Savage.

It’s a sentiment echoed by local Cockatoo café owner Ben Jelley.

“We opened to a super warm welcome a couple of years ago. It’s a lovely community that has all the aspects of what makes a community – things like Auskick, bookclubs, mothers groups.” said Mr Jelley.

Warralily will continue to develop with 1000 allotments still to come. New precincts are taking shape including the conveniently located Warralily Central neighborhood and Axis townhomes. Prestigious Warralily Grange in Mount Duneed will see the first residents move in this year.
